Sandra Kelly Boys' Tournament 2023

17th May 2023

What a fabulous day we had on Friday past as we hosted our annual Sandra Kelly Memorial Boys Tournament. We were delighted to welcome 13 schools from the surrounding area and luckily, the sun shone brightly down over Páirc an Locha for the duration of the day.

Our three pitches were blessed with some wonderful football during the group stages and the schools who took part looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. We’d like to commend each of our schools on how well they behaved on the day. Not only was the football a joy to watch but the manners and respect towards the referees was too.👍🏻😊

Our two teams from St. Teresa’s worked tirelessly from start to finish and although the results didn’t always go their way, they represented their school and families with pride - which is what it’s all about.

After some terrific battles in both sections, St. Mary’s Ballygawley and St. Patrick’s Gortin took the honours in the A and B sections respectively; beating off two impressive finalists in St. Colmcille’s, Carrickmore (A) and Our Lady of Lourdes, Greencastle (B). All four teams who made the finals were excellent throughout but it was quite fitting that two Loughmacrory natives helped steer their schools to victory; in the form of Mr Stephen Donaghy (St. Mary’s) and Mrs Caoimhe Cunningham (St. Patrick’s).

Huge thanks to all of our participating schools who played each of their games in a fair and sporting manner. Well done to St. Patrick’s, Eskra; St. Malachy’s, Glencull; St. Brigid’s, Altamuskin; St. Ronan’s, Recarson; St. Brigid’s, Mountfield; Christ the King, Omagh; Sacred Heart, Rock and Roscavey Primary School. 👏🏻

On behalf of the school, we’d like to say a special word of thanks to the committee and groundsmen of the club for allowing us the use of their magnificent facilties. To Damien Mullan for arranging the competition and inviting all the schools along. To Dermot Moxon, Leo Meenan and Ryan Keenan for refereeing our games. To Cathal, Paudi and the Kelly Family for being a constant flow of support for this tournament and to the many other volunteers who put on a delicious spread of food for all in attendance. 👏🏻🙌🏻⭐️

We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and got plenty of games over the course of the day. Congrats to the staff and players of the two winning teams from St. Mary’s, Ballygawley and St. Patrick’s, Gortin. We know that the Sandra Kelly cups are in good hands and having them on display in your schools will help keep Sandra’s memory alive in the surrounding areas. 🙌🏻

Thank you all for coming!!😊👌
